'Eclipse' Book Summary and Character Descriptions

Quick synopsis:
The third book, which follows New Moon and Breaking Dawn, continues to center around the romance between 18-year-old Bella Swan and her vampire love interest, Edward Cullen. In the beginning scene, Edward realizes that Seattle, Washington has been hit by a large number of murders, which he suspects is a result of a new vampire looking for human blood. Edward and Bella are applying to colleges, and Bella is entertaining the idea of visiting here werewolf friend, Jacob Black. Edward is worried about her safety, but Bella continues visiting Jacob, who eventually tells her he is in love with her, but she doesn't reciprocate the feelings. He tries to kiss her and Bella punches Jacob in the face, hurting her hand. Soon thereafter, Edward proposes to Bella and she says yes.
The couple realize the murders have been committed by a large group of young vampires, lead by Victoria, a vampire/enemy of Bella. The were wolfs and Cullens group together to fight the group. But Jacob grows upset about the Bella/Edward engagement and threatens to get himself killed in the combat against the were wolfs. Bella tries to kiss him to calm him down, but then realizes she's in love with him, too. Eventually, the pack of newborn vampires find Edward and he is forced to fight them, but kills Victoria and her army surrenders. Bella realizes she loves Edward most and Jacob flees out of heartbreak.
Character Summaries:
Isabella "Bella" Swan – The protagonist Bella, played by Kristen Stewart, is a teenager "danger magnet" who is often depicted as having low self-esteem. Edward Cullen, the vampire main protagonist, is in love with her but she has trouble accepting that he feels that way. Kristen becomes a vampire in the fourth installment of the saga and can protect herself from others and ward away "mental harm" from other vampires.
Edward Cullen – The second main character, Edward Cullen (played by Robert Pattinson), is a vampire and eats animals. He falls in love with Bella and they start a family together. He has an ongoing love-hate relationship with were wolf Jacob Black, who has romantic feelings for Bella. Edward's supernatural power is that he can mind read, except for that of Bella.
Jacob Black – The werewolf Jacob, played by Taylor Lautner, is part of the Quileute tribe -- a fictional version of the real-life Native American group. Jacob becomes Bella's best friend, helping her cope through her breakup with Edward in New Moon, and then later falling in love with her in Eclipse. Jacob's superpower is metamorphosis into a wolf, the enemy of vampires.
