Mugabe the monster of Zimbabwe

Robert Mugabe, Dictator of Zimbabwe

The once proud and bountiful nation of Zimbawe used to be known as the breadbasket of Africa with its hugely productive farms and buoyant economy.
Today Zimbabwe is on its knees after years of misrule from its leader Robert Mugabe whose corruption, greed and rampant lust for power by any means has completely destroyed it.
There are few jobs available and most of the population face starvation and a bleak future with the economy in ruins and rampant runaway inflation.

On March 29th this year the Movement for Democratic Change won the parliamentary elections but fell short of an outright majority which meant a presidential run off scheduled to take place today. Since then the country has been rocked by violence which has escalated day by day as the election approaches. Mugabe and his brutal henchmen have used every means at their disposal to torture, kill and suppress opposition supporters. Mugabe’s evil cronies even murdered the Mayor of Harare’s wife and he has fled in fear of his own life.
Nearly 90 MDC supporters have been killed to date and earlier this week the opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai pulled out of today’s presidential race to avoid further bloodshed.
Pressure by African Nations and the West has been mounting on Mugabe to postpone the elections as being the only candidate he cannot lose and it is a total farce. He has not surprisingly rejected this pressure because as the saying goes “Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely”.
The world has stood by and done nothing as this disaster unfolded and so far only the UK has offered token ineffectual gestures such has stripping him of his honorary knighthood and banning the Zimbabwean cricket team from playing here next year.
This will have no effect whatsoever in curbing this monsters lust for power at any cost and the World leaders should act in a much more decisive and effective manner to rid the world of this awful despot and give the people of Zimbabwe some hope for the future. Special Forces could be sent in to physically remove Mugabe from power and the run off election could be declared illegal and Morgan Tsvangirai should be announced as the official president of Zimbabwe even if he has to go into exile, which seems likely. All diplomatic links with Mugabe should be cut and he should be tried in The Hague for crimes against humanity and murder. Unfortunately we do not seem to have any leaders in the West with the strength of purpose to bring this about so poor Zimbabwe suffers while the world sits back and does nothing.
