Join Darren Littlejohn, author of the 12-Step Buddhist and Tysa Fennern for the first annual 12-Step Buddhist Winter Retreat at Breitenbush Hot Springs in Oregon. Tysa will facilitate the women’s activities. The retreat is open to anyone – you do not have to be an addict or Buddhist to participate. We’ll explore principles of 12-Step recovery and methods from Zen and Tibetan Buddhism, as well as the popular Aspects of Self dialog process. Join us as we foster spiritual recovery in the rustic but comfortable mountain setting.*

Activities

  • Women’s, men’s and mixed meetings
  • Guided and silent meditations, some mantra chanting.
  • Aspects of Self Dialogs
  • Midnight Meditations!
  • Optional Writing Exercises
  • Spiritual Topic Book Basket – bring a book for the topic grab bag. All books will be returned to their owners.
  • Morning Yoga (depending on availability of teacher)
  • Fun and Games
  • Hot Tubbing – clothing optional at Breitenbush

Note: There will be some quiet personal time. But this is an interactive retreat intensive. Hiking trails are nearby for those interested.

What to bring
Bedding, pillow, towels, bio-degradeable toiletries, flashlight, water bottle (not bottled water, our water is pure and delicious), clock, walking shoes, rain gear and caffeinated beverages if you want them. You or your roomate may snore. Please come prepared (nose guards, ear plugs) for this possibility. Traction devices for your vehicle are required by law from November to April.

* All roads to the facility will be open, regardless of weather conditions. They have a new snow plow and were fully open during the last two snowstorms. Please review the Brietenbush Hot Springs Lodging Page for details about the facility. For example, children are welcome, bedding can be rented or must be brought by you, etc. Their website is: http://www.breitenbush.com/reservations/info.html#rates Some key points are copied below:

What not to bring
Pets, burnables (candles, incense), electric devices (hairdryers, curling irons, coffee makers), bottled water, recreational drugs or alcohol. Please refrain from use of perfume, cologne or scented toiletries.

Assistance Animals
In compliance with Oregon State law and the Americans With Disabilities Act we allow trained dog guides for persons who are blind, trained hearing ear dogs for persons who are deaf, trained assistance animals for persons who are permanently physically impaired, and task trained service animals for persons with a mental disability.

No public phone or internet use at Breitenbush
Due to very limited capacity public phone and internet access is for emergency use. We are out of cellular phone range. Please make all necessary phone calls from Detroit on your way in.

Wheelchair Accessibility
We have a very limited number of wheelchair accessible rooms and cabins. The workshop spaces in the lodge are accessible by ramp. However, our unpaved paths are narrow and sometimes steep. Access to bathing areas requires mobility. An assistant or companion is highly recommended.
