I'm 14-Years-Old and Need Help Finding a Job

If you're 14-years-old and can't find a job, don't worry, you're not alone. In fact, many minors find it hard to secure a job.

Why? Well, although there are many places you can work, some employers may frown on hiring someone so young because there are restrictions on how many hours minors can work. In general, most states require minors to get a work permit signed by their employer. The work permit lays out restrictions, such as how many hours a day or week a minor can work, or until what hours a minor can work.

Many employers don't want to deal with the hassle of trying to work out a special schedule for a young employee, which makes it harder for you to get a job. Still, applying to these places is totally worth the effort. So what if you get turned down? Then you move on to the next place. In reality, there are many places you can go to find a job. Restaurants, delis, cafes, small shops, grocery stores, fast food restaurants and retail stores are just a few.

Basically, if you're 14, and applying for a job, apply everywhere that offers part-time work, and don't be picky. The more places you apply, the more chances you have of finding a job.

Also, remember to take looking for a job seriously. You're young, and have that much more to prove when you walk into an establishment looking for a job. You need to appear confident and responsible.

A happily married woman. The owner of the cutest dog ever. A journalism graduate. A girl who just loves sports and beer, preferably at the same time.
