Election Countdown: 20 Days to Election
Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) greets excited supporters outside the Hilton Hotel October 15, 2008 in New York City. McCain traveled from New York to the site of his last debate with his opponent Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) in Hempstead, New York. (Photo by Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images North America)News has been slow on the campaign trail today as both candidates have been preparing for tonight's final Presidential debate at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York.
The debate will almost surely center once again on the economy, with the Dow today plunging 733 points after a 936 point rally Monday. It's pretty clear that markets are incredibly unstable and specific regulation proposals will likely play well to an audience thinking about their bank accounts and investments.
While the Presidential candidates prepared, Sarah Palin used her time to campaign in New Hampshire. She compared New Hampshire to Alaska, saying “We all love good moose hunting, we enjoy our land, we love being outdoors." She later added that “Dover is home to two kinds of people, the people of New Hampshire and the fine people of Massachusetts who got sick of paying all those taxes.”
Speaking of Sarah Palin, if you haven't seen it, you definitely need to check out the latest La Paquena video.
Meanwhile in Florida, grandchildren of retired Jews in the southern state are participating in The Great Schlep in an effort to convince their grandparents to vote for Barack Obama. Schlep is a Yiddish word meaning tug or pull and the younger Jewish generation has found the need to pull their largely Democratic grandparents over to Obama's side and past some of the cultural and racial biases that play against the African American candidate in some parts of the country. Oh and we all know Halloween is coming up and I'm sure you're working hard on that Sarah Palin costume (yeah real original), but have you thought about just going with a pumpkin carved in her likeness? The AP has released a set of Presidential pumpkin patterns you might enjoy using this season. Because nothing says creepy like a John McCain jack-o-lantern! (See them all here)
Gallup Daily Tracking
Obama: 50% (-1)
McCain: 43% (+1)
