With 12 days until the election, early voting has already opened in many states. In Florida, Democrats are turning up in larger numbers with 81,800 Democratic voters compared to 42,700 Republican voters and 21,100 Independents. ABC News reports that the trend is nationwide.

Lines to vote in Florida have been reported to be several hours long. The Miami Herald sent its reporters out to polling places to vote and report back on their experiences:

"I approached what was a long line of other early voters, including Erwin Kory, a 68-year-old aviation consultant. He felt he was being a part of history by casting a ballot in this year's presidential election.

To officially do so, however, he would wait in line for the next four hours. So did I. Kory was standing behind me the whole time.

'This is the biggest turnout of voters I've seen in 50 years,' Kory said. 'I've never seen anything this big.'
"

Thursday morning, lines were reportedly shorter in Florida. And really if you want the latest in early voting news, I would recommend subscribing to the Miami Herald's RSS feed. They're doing a bang-up job covering the election in the battleground state infamous for its part in the 2000 presidential election.
