I'll Vote for Free Food Any Day

5:52 pm, Antioch Baptist Church, San Jose, CA

Other than the confusion of showing up at the wrong polling place, my voting experience was pretty uneventful. In my defense, my correct polling location was actually across the street from the location I had mistaken as my own, an easy mistake to make when there are "VOTE!" signs everywhere and no address in sight.

Luckily there was no one in line. Actually, calling what I waited in a line would be too kind, since there were only three people ahead of me and one of them was a baby. An older woman at the first location kindly directed me across the street and told me not to worry, people have been making that mistake all day.

My actual polling location was a church, and apparently the designated spot for all of the San Jose State University voting community. Volunteers my age quickly set me up with a ballot and pointed me towards a little voting screen.

"Sarah, what's Proposition 2 again?" a shrill voice yelled to a woman about two spaces in front of me, who I could only guess was Sarah. Sarah, realizing that yelling the answer across the room might actually disturb someone's thought process, walked back to her friend to quietly explain the Proposition centered around farm animals. This was my voting experience, college students yelling back and forth at each other.

Aside from the yelling, the experience was kind of a let down. I expected long lines, maybe people arguing about same-sex marriage, who knows! Instead the whole experience lasted about 10 minutes and I don't really feel like I've changed anything. Oh well, time for free ice cream, coffee and donuts, preferably at the same time.
A happily married woman. The owner of the cutest dog ever. A journalism graduate. A girl who just loves sports and beer, preferably at the same time.
