Joe Biden and Sarah Palin show down in St. Louis, Missouri tonight. Considering recent press coverage of Sarah Palin it should be an interesting evening. The consensus among the press is that she must come out with an A+ in order to repair the damage done by her three recent major press interviews. Of course, if Palin trips up from her talking points she's already got two explanations ready. First, "gotcha journalism". I love this term, because if you think about it the media is getting stuff to say "gotcha" on. Is that really all that unfair? If you can't answer a simple question on foreign policy, name newspapers, magazines or books that you have read, or cite Supreme Court cases that formulate laws that you fundamentally disagree with and seek to over turn...someone might just call you out on that.
Joe Biden on the other hand, is not completely innocent in everything he has ever done, however does have specific experience that he can cite beyond the "ready, willing and able" stock answer that seems to emanate from the McCain camp.
The second cry of unfairness will concern tonight's moderator Gwen Ifill, who is scheduled to release a pro-Obama book in the near future. Although I must admit that if this were the other way around I would take issue with it initially, but truthfully if the moderator is unfair it will be for all of the eyes of the nation to see and she will likely avoid that at all costs. Hopefully.
A flashback to 1984 when history really was made and a woman was placed on the ticket for the first time. This is a segment of the debate between George Bush Sr. and Geraldine Ferraro. The scary thing? We don't seem to have gotten much farther along than where we were back then. Funny how history, like the Bushes seem to repeat themselves...
