Modern design renegades like Comme des Garçons and Alexander McQueen got more mainstream exposure than ever before when they announced partnerships with mass retailers like Target and H&M. Sex and the City brought fashion to the big screen in an undeniable way, giving women a reason to get dressed up for the Cineplex. And then there were the red carpet dresses.
