Friday was an exciting day in Conway, Arkansas. Everyone on my team, at Acxiom , wore their Kris Allen t-shirts. All day long, we talked about Kris Allen and what he was currently doing (whether it was performing at the Riverfest Amphitheatre in Little Rock, or being spotted at Stoby's etc.). I left work thirty minutes early to meet my husband and kids, who walked from our house to Simon Park (located downtown), and waited with the throng of 20,000 fans for Kris Allen to arrive. Every year, during the first weekend in May, Conway hosts its annual festival called Toad Suck Daze . ... Read Full Story

The annual Toad Suck Daze festival is here! For the 28th year, Conway's population will swell to well over 150,000 as people from all over descend on downtown to buy crafts, listen to live entertainment, enjoy carnival rides and indulge in any food that can be stuck on a stick and deep fried. Held the first weekend of May, Toad Suck Daze is the largest free event of its kind in Arkansas. It lives up to its reputation as the best family fun time in the state. The popular Stuck on a Truck contest kicks things off at noon on Thursday, as participants vie ... Read Full Story

Talk about drama! Tonight's show was full of it. If you've watched any of The Biggest Loser -Season 7, you know that Joelle was the show's 'problem child'. Well, no more. Joelle Gwynn was sent home tonight. Unfortunately, her teammate and (ex-best friend) , Carla Triplett, shared her teammate's misfortune and she sure didn't deserve it. Carla lost an impressive 9 pounds, while Joelle lost no weight at all. ZERO ! It's sad because Carla had to pay the price for Joelle's lack of effort. The silver team along with the brown team fell below the yellow line tonight. It was up to the ... Read Full Story

The rain and dreary weather continued Sunday, yet a determined crowd showed up for the last day of the Toad Suck Daze festival. Organizers extended the festival hours Sunday to allow more time for people to enjoy more food and fun. The regular schedule of events continued, including championship toad racing at the Toad Dome, craft and concessions booths and carnival rides. At 2 p.m., the scholarship announcement took place on the main stage. This year, the Toad Suck Daze Committee of the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce awarded $51,000 in college scholarships from funds raised from the Toad Suck Daze festival. Also Sunday ... My daughter, Rachael, and I went to a Wheel of Fortune open-call audition that was held in the town where I live (Conway, Arkansas) last Saturday. While reading the Saturday paper, I read the Friday auditions drew over 3,000 people. Not knowing how early we should arrive, I decided to go check it out a couple hours before the 4 o'clock show time. It was windy and cold Saturday, so Rachael and I were both decked out in our coats, scarves and gloves. Luckily, there was plenty of room inside the building. There were probably three hundred people in line when we got there. ... Read Full Story

Our home is located in an older, established neighborhood with lots of big trees and green grass. We love how we're centrally located, with a nice park close by as well as several schools within close walking distance, including Conway High School and the University of Central Arkansas . One of the neater things about where we live, however, is the Toad Suck Run race goes right by our house! A part of the Toad Suck Daze festival, it's a 5K and 10K race hosted by the Conway Running Club , with runners coming from all over the state to participate. We get up ... Read Full Story
