Events that lead up to the Indianapolis 500 will be slashed by a week, Indianapolis Motor Speedway officials say.  

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indianapolis 500 will cut one week out of its traditional schedule in May.  

Indianapolis Motor Speedway officials are altering the Month of May format again, marking the third year in a row the Indianapolis 500 schedule has been condensed to cut costs. The changes also push back the start of practice to May 15, the latest opening day in track history.

Indianapolis 500 qualifying is being reduced to a single weekend and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway will open later next year, officials have announced.

The month of May is getting shorter at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS). IMS officials say activities leading to the 2010 Indianapolis 500 will be shortened by a week. Opening Day at the track will be May 15, with the race slated for May 30. Officials are also planning to condense Pole Day and Bump Day into the same weekend.
