The twin Oscar winner, AR Rahman, has bagged two nominations for the forthcoming Grammy Awards. The music maestro from India has received nominations in the Best Song Written For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media and Best Compilation Soundtrack Album For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media categories. The Grammy awards will be presented on 31st of January, 2010 at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles.
Rahman had won two Oscars for his music in Slumdog Millionaire in February 2009. But this is the first ever Grammy nomination for the musical legend. As a part of the CBS special event of prime-time the Grammy nominations were unveiled. This the second consecutive instance when the Recording Academy revealed named of its 109 nominees during a televised concert. Earlier the names of the nominees were announced during a morning news show.
The song “Jai Ho”, from the Oscar winning film Slumdog Millionaire, for which Rahman earlier received two Academy awards and a Golden Globe, has been nominated in the Best Song written for Motion Picture, Television or Other visual media category. Written by Gulzar, “Jai Ho” will face tough competition with Bruce Springsteen’s title track for “The Wrestler”, “Once in a Lifetime” from film “Cadillac Records”, “Decode” from “Twilight” and “The Client” from “Hannah Montana: The Movie”.
The Slumdog album, which had earlier snatched away the top position from Lady GaGa’s “The Fame” on Billboard 200, will not compete with the soundtracks of Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglourious Basterds”, Beyonce starrer “Cadillac Records”, HBO’s vampire series “True Blood” and Robert Pattinson starrer vampire-romance “Twilight”.
