The ACC tournament has been played every year since 1954, and the return to Greensboro places the tournament right back in the center of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Not only is Greensboro, NC physically located centrally to all of the ACC member schools, it's the hometown of the ACC corporate headquarters. The first ACC tournaments were played in Raleigh for the first twelve years before moving to Greensboro.
The 2010 and 2011 tournaments are both to be played in Greensboro, and then the games will hit the road again for Atlanta, playing the 2012 tournament in the southern city of Georgia. Following the Atlanta year, the tournament will head back to Greensboro for at least three more seasons, through 2016.
At one point, it was a requirement to win the ACC tournament in order for an conference team to receive a bid to the NCAA tournament, but although that's no longer the case, playing well in the games can help a team's chances with the NCAA Selection Committee.
This year's tournament will be held from March 11 through March 14, and just as with other tournaments, the tournament is divided into two-game sessions, where a single tickets is good for a single, specific session. Fans need to be aware of when their team is playing, meaning which specific session their game falls on and on which day. There's nothing worse than traveling to the games and not having the right tickets.
