Penske Racing has named AJ Allmendinger as the driver of the team’s No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Dodge Charger for the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

After five years of racing for teams that were either just getting started or struggling to pay the bills, AJ Allmendinger has finally found what he’s been looking for.
Days after Best Buy announced that it would not sponsor the No. 43 Richard Petty Motorsports Ford in 2012, Allmendinger landed on his feet, replacing Kurt Busch in the No. 22 Dodge at Penske Racing.
The two months since the end of the NASCAR season have gone pretty well for AJ Allmendinger. In December, he joined Penske Racing as a replacement for the recently released Kurt Busch. Allmendinger, who had struggled for five seasons in Cup at Red Bull Racing and Richard Petty Motorsports, will now drive a car that made the Chase For The Sprint Cup the last two years.
