The Legacy of Bush

Well I had this idea for a post arguing against the first fool who wrote an article saying that Bush would have a great legacy left behind as president.

Yet a google search on "The Bush Legacy" all pretty much looks like this:


No one to argue with.

Maybe there are going to be 'revisionist historians' trying to make him look like an @wes0me l3@der#! and a er33t War Preznit!3%@ one day but I dunno.. David Broder and Robert Novak probably haven't got the creativity to spin that. Honestly what would they say..? ..that he was courageous in his disregard of popular U.S. opinion? That he fought off the Muslim menace? Here's my summary of the presidency in less than 100 words.


Jan 20, 2001 Bush Inaugurated.

Jan 25, 2001 Richard Clarke sends Condi Rice memo, warning about al Qaeda. Rice does nothing.
Jan 26, 2001 Weekly White House anti-terrorism meetings started by Clinton are disbanded.
August 6, 2001 Bush gets memo titled "Bin Laden Determined to strike in US." Bush responds by telling the briefer, "All right. You've covered your ass, now." Then does nothing.

September 11, 2001 Bin Laden strikes in US. White house responds by grounding all flights except the one shuttling Bin Laden's extended family out of the country. 45 Days later Republican held Congress passes patriot Act 1.

September 12, 2001 Republicans start blaming Clinton.
A Month later we bomb the shit out of the country that harbored the guy who claimed to be the mastermind. 6 Months after that Bush says "It doesn't really matter if we catch him or not". 6 Months after that they legitimize torture. 6 Months after that they give the U.N. a deadline to get it's inspectors out of Iraq. A Month later we invade the wrong country. A month later "Mission Accomplished". A month later "Bring `em on." A Month later Bush wonders aloud why Saddam was bluffing and kicking the inspectors out. Abu Graib. A Month after that Valerie Plame can't work for the C.I.A. anymore. Katrina. A Year later they start work dismantling the social security. The price of oil doubles. Israel builds a wall. Today, the deficit reaches 1 half trillion without counting the wars.

I could go on.. and maybe I should.. but others will do a better job. Historians will do a better job. And maybe one day... just maybe.. when Republicans look at something like this, they will realize that "Bomb the Motherfuckers" was pretty much an automatic response. That there's no genius in putting a Rube into the whitehouse as long as he's surrounded by so called 'smart people'. That civility counts and accountability matters. That justice cannot be manufactured. That war is wrong.


But probably not in this fucking town.
