Matthew Silliman
Four North Carolina teenagers have been charged with murdering 18-year-old Eagle Scout
Matthew Silliman and leaving his body wrapped in a plastic bag in a trailer.
Clockwise from upper left: Allegra Dahlquist; Drew Shaw; Ryan Patrick Hare; Aadil Khan.
Ryan Patrick Hare (18),
Drew Logan Shaw (16),
Aadil Khan (17), and
Allegra Dahlquist (17) were told by a judge Wednesday that they could face life in prison for the murder of Silliman if convicted. The four were arrested Dec. 2, following the gruesome discovery of Silliman's body. Police documents describe the crime scene at the abandoned trailer home.
One warrant says officers found Silliman "lying on a bathroom floor," and another says he was wrapped "in a plastic bag with duct tape over his mouth." The warrants don't say which of the four suspects confessed to the murder, but the details are odd to say the least.
The witness admitted to beating the deceased on his head with a hammer, tying the deceased with zip ties, suffocating him with duct tape and disposing of him in a plastic bag. The witness also stated they attempted to utilize medications commonly used for animals to plan the murder and read the deceased his fortune using tarot cards just prior to his death. Among the items recovered in police searches are tarot cards, multiple books on how to interpret them, knives, boxes of trash bags, duct tape, and some of the drugs that were used to turn Silliman into a docile victim before his death.
The trailer belongs to the Allegra Dahlquist's mother, who helped her run a pet-sitting business and ride horses in equestrian competitions. Dahlquist's attorney, Joe Cheshire, told the
Raleigh News & Observer that the 17-year-old is "having a really hard time" with the situation.
"She's in adult jail. Her whole world is gone. Emotionally, she's a little girl who rode horses and helped with a pet-sitting service. She's not a bad person," Cheshire said.
The four are set to appear in court Dec. 22 and are currently being held without bail.
