Ten years ago today Aaliyah Dana Haughton was taken from this world to be amongst fellow angels. Aaliyah’s career started at the young age of 10 when she appeared on star search and although she didn’t win she pressed on was eventually signed to Jive at the age of 12. Aaliyah was taken under the wing of R&B artist RKelly who became her mentor and also took the lead as the songwriter and producer for her first album “Age Ain’t Nothing but a Number”. With the success of “Age Ain’t Nothing but a Number” Aaliyah’s presence in the R&B world was taken by storm the buzz was all around the girl with the sultry fasletto voice taking R&B to another level in the 90′s. Just a few years later Aaliyah hooked up with Timbaland and Missy Elliot on her next album “One In a Million” which had hits like “4 page letter” and “Hot Like Fire”. The production collab of Timbaland and Missy brought a new sound of R&B to the scene with beats that rattled your heart. Aaliyah sang songs that young women could relate to in regard to love and life. Aaliyah always gave a hot performance she had moves that many tried to immitate, but no one could duplicate. As Aaliyah grew more into the woman that we grew to love her music grew and became more mature.
We all know the story of what happened to Aaliyah as she was on her way back to the U.S. from the Bahamas ten years ago today. Let’s remember the good things there are so many moments I can think of.
