The Chicago Cubs won what turned out to be the final two games of their series with the St. Louis Cardinals in dramatic fashion on both Friday and Saturday. On Friday it was Alfonso Soriano who despite striking out three out of his first four at bats picked just the right time to find his home run stroke. With Aaron Miles on first following a walk and the Cubs trailing 6-7, Soriano took a low slider from Chris Perez and deposited it into the left field bleachers to give the Cubs the 8-7 victory. Carlos Zambrano, who got the start against rookie P.J. Walters, ... Read Full Story

Departing Following Disaster, A Familiar Site for Mets Fans I've been pretty quiet about this for awhile. I realize nobody likes those blogs where people just go off and rant about their hometown teams in unintelligible prose ad nauseam. Just please accept our apologies on this one occasion. Our beef? Aaron F-in Heilman. For fans who watch this franchise day in and day out, little else needs to be said. Today, however, has pushed me to and over the edge. More specifically, five words are drawing my ire. Five words that accompanied a headline of a story on Mets.com. "Heilman still has Mets' confidence" ... Read Full Story

Yes, it’s that time again. The holiday season; the time for making out lists of what you want, and hoping that one day soon, you get it. Fans all over the Tri-State area have in their minds what they want. Here is a generic list of what I am hoping the New York Mets will get for me, during the holiday season. 1. Brian Fuentes and Houston Street- as Mets fans, I think we have come to the conclusion that there will be no more Billy Wagner, and Aaron Heilman is on his way out as well. Although I am of the minority that ... Read Full Story

If Jerry Manuel had to put together the Mets' playoff roster today, he said hapless reliever Aaron Heilman Aaron Heilman would "probably" be on it. That by the Mets' interim manager claim appears dubious considering how poorly Heilman continues to pitch and how reluctant Manuel has been in using him lately. Heilman made his first appearance in a week Wednesday and was dreadful, giving up a double and single to the only two hitters he faced in the eighth inning of an eventual 9-7 win over the Nationals. Asked before last night's 7-2 win if he had lost confidence in Heilman, Manuel sidestepped the ... Read Full Story

...After a few articles to the contrary 2 weeks ago, Newsday is now reporting that Aaron Heilman is more focused and accepting of his 8th inning role than ever before. The article even makes a comparison between Heilman and the Yankees phenom Joba Chamberlain, one based more on progression than ability of course. In my opinion, Aaron Heilman is one of the most important parts of the Mets bullpen. He has pitched more innings than anyone in the 'pen over the past 2 seasons, and last year had an ERA just slightly above 3.00. The biggest issue with Heilman is that he is susceptible ... On January 28th, 2009, the Cubs pulled a deal off with the Mariners that would send them relief pitcher Aaron Heilman for Ronny Cedeno and Garret Olson.  Olson had been acquired by the Cubs in a deal with Baltimore for outfield "sensation" Felix Pie, whereas Cedeno -- like Dorothy's Scarecrow -- had been sent to Chicago perhaps from the Wizard, minus a brain.  In other words, it was a pretty sweet deal.  The only problem was that Heilman was...

New York's other team has finally put nearly a decade of futility behind them and collected the prize that is supposed to come with a $200 billion payroll: the "World" Series. The Mets were content to win the real "world"2009 competition, the competition over which club can send the most of their pricey players to the meaningless World Baseball Classic to become injured/ineffective. Look for them to do the same exact thing again the next...
