According to Aaron Wilson of the Carroll County Times, the Pittsburgh Steelers will be releasing defensive end Aaron Smith.
Smith will turn 36 years-old this month and it’s not worth it for the Steelers to keep him on the roster when they need to clear up as much cap space as they can before the new league year begins on march 13th.

Smith, who many people expected to retire following the 2011 season, has been with the Steelers since 1999. From 2000 to 2008, Smith was extremely durable, missing just five games in that stretch all of which came in the 2007 season.

I kind of figured this was going to happen shortly, but it is sad nonetheless: the Steelers placed longtime DE Aaron Smith on injured reserve today, ending his 2011 season and mosty likely his career.
