Former Saints running back Aaron Stecker has been signed by the Atlanta Falcons ahead of Monday night's game in New Orleans.  

A visit from the Atlanta Falcons stirs emotions with the New Orleans Saints even when both teams struggle. Just ask Aaron Stecker, the newest Falcons player who spent the last five seasons with the Saints. Stecker, the running back who signed with the Falcons on Tuesday, had his first practice with the team Wednesday.

The Falcons announced Saturday the release of running back Aaron Stecker, and they signed wide receiver Troy Bergeron from their practice squad to the 53-man roster.  

In an anticipated move that could signal Falcons running back Michael Turner will miss Sunday's game at the Giants with an ankle injury, Atlanta is expected to re-sign tailback Aaron Stecker.

FLOWERY BRANCH -- Falcons running back Aaron Stecker will try to give the team a boost against his old team, the New Orleans Saints on Monday night.  

Reggie Bush helped the New Orleans Saints overcome another bundle of mistakes to stay unbeaten for the best start in team history. Bush scored twice for the first time in more than a year and Drew Brees compensated for two interceptions with two touchdown passes that allowed the Saints to escape with a 28-23 victory Sunday over the St.  

Reggie Bush has missed two practices this week as the Saints try to rest their running back's left knee. It's the same knee Bush had surgery on last December to repair cartilage. Bush is coming off one of his best games of the season in St. Louis last Sunday, when he gained 98 yards and scored two touchdowns on six rushes and a pair of receptions.  

Until now, Pierre Thomas could not recall playing for a football team at any level that was 10-0, or averaged 36.9 points per game, or had 18 different players score touchdowns. So the running back says that the New Orleans Saints' accomplishments this season have been remarkable, even if the teams they've beaten have a combined 37-63 record.  

The schedule has done zero favors for the one-win St. Louis Rams, the first team in NFL history to draw unbeaten opponents in three straight home games. Good luck parlaying fresh legs off the bye week and a two-week buzz from their lone victory now that the prolific New Orleans Saints are coming to town.  

Robert Meachem promised during New Orleans' training camp that he would remind the Saints why they made him their first-round draft choice in 2007. Half way into his third season, Meachem has advanced far beyond the frustration of his rookie season, when he arrived at rookie camp out of shape, hurt his knee, and wound up spending all 16 regular season games on the inactive list and watching...  

For Saints offensive tackle Jon Stinchcomb, it's all about perspective. Since he was drafted by New Orleans in 2003, he's been part of only two winning teams. The second of those is this year's edition, which reached the franchise's first-ever 9-0 record at St. Louis on Sunday despite one of its least impressive performances all season.  

The New Orleans Saints are without both starting cornerbacks after Tracy Porter was helped off the field with an apparent left knee injury in the third quarter of Sunday's game against the St. Louis Rams. Porter was hurt when he tripped over a teammate on a Rams' reception. After being helped to the sideline, he was carted off.  

Bill Belichick and Bill Gates have more in common than their first name, the way Saints coach Sean Payton sees it. "You have to pay attention to the Microsofts of the world if you're some day wanting to compete in that industry," Payton said this week as New Orleans prepared to host Belichick's New England Patriots.  

Taped to one side of Anthony Hargrove's locker, next to photos of his two young children, is a letter with the NFL's trademark shield at the top and commissioner Roger Goodell's signature at the bottom. Hargrove pushes aside his hanging gold New Orleans Saints uniform pants to fully reveal the text, then begins reading.  

The New Orleans Saints have brought back Mike McKenzie to replace cornerback Leigh Torrence, who will miss the rest of the season with a shoulder injury. The Saints placed Torrence on injured reserve late Monday. McKenzie, an 11-year veteran, was released by the Saints in the offseason following injuries to each knee in consecutive seasons.  

Drew Brees sounds like a man who's embarrassed, and not because of all the compliments he's getting over the New Orleans Saints' perfect record through seven games. The Saints' past two victories have been riddled with errors, starting with eight turnovers, six of which were committed by the quarterback with four interceptions and a pair of fumbles.  

Hobbled and disenchanted, Chris McAlister wasn't sure he wanted to play in the NFL any more. Suddenly, the 10-year veteran cornerback has been snapped up by the New Orleans Saints -- one of only two remaining unbeaten teams in the NFL -- and he's glad to be back in pads again. "Earlier in the offseason I wasn't ready or (didn't) have the mindset to come back and play...  

David Thomas has no beef with the New England Patriots. He wasn't offended that they unloaded him to New Orleans this preseason for a 2011 seventh-round pick, though few would have blamed the most prolific tight end in the history of the Texas Longhorns for wondering if he was worth a little more.  

The unbeaten New Orleans Saints were without safety Darren Sharper and cornerback Jabari Greer against the St. Louis Rams. A third defensive starter, tackle Sedrick Ellis (knee), missed his third straight start on Sunday. Both Sharper (knee) and Greer (groin) missed their first game after getting hurt in last week's victory over the Panthers.  

A shot at ruining New Orleans' perfect record is not the only reason the struggling Tampa Bay Buccaneers and young Josh Freeman are excited about facing the unbeaten Saints. Sunday begins a stretch in which the Bucs (1-8) play five of seven games against NFC South rivals, and they're eager to see how their rookie quarterback holds up in his first tour through the division.  

The death of the mother of New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has been ruled a suicide. Mina Brees, an attorney from Austin, Texas, died Aug. 7 while visiting Colorado. Grand County coroner Brenda Bock concluded this week that the 59-year-old Brees died of a prescription drug overdose and ruled the death a suicide.  

Saints starting cornerback Tracy Porter has a sprained left knee, will not require surgery and is expected to return to the field this season. Tests on Monday including an MRI revealed that Porter has a sprained medial collateral ligament, Saints coach Sean Payton said. Payton expressed relief that the injury would not end Porter's season as initially feared a day earlier when he was carted to...  

Jake Delhomme has several reasons to love the Saints. They were the team of his south Louisiana childhood, the first NFL team to put him on a roster, and ever since he left, he's been able to beat them with regularity. The New England Patriots are heading back to New Orleans for the first time since they won the Super Bowl there. They don't expect to spend a lot of time reminiscing. "There's certainly a lot of fond memories for Super Bowl 36 there, but the Saints will bring it back to reality quickly," Patriots coach Bill Belichick said Wednesday.  

Tampa Bay receiver Antonio Bryant is active for Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints after sitting out the previous two weeks because of a sore left knee. Running back Reggie Bush and defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis are inactive for the Saints with knee injuries. Cornerbacks Tracy Porter and Chris McAlister also are sitting out as New Orleans tries to remain unbeaten.  

Perfect through 10 games, the New Orleans Saints think they can play even better. "I feel like we haven't peaked yet. ... I feel like the sky's the limit for this team," Drew Brees said after throwing for three touchdowns in Sunday's 38-7 rout of the struggling Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  

A person familiar with the decision says running back Reggie Bush and defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis are not traveling with the New Orleans Saints for Sunday's game against Tampa Bay. Both players are expected to be back at practice next week, said the person, who requested anonymity because the team's injury report had not been officially updated.

It was the Saints' defense, trying to make each practice of training camp as miserable as possible for New Orleans' star quarterback, the offensive line, the running backs and receivers. Along the way, they all got a little tougher -- and better, Brees said.  

Drew Brees threw his 100th touchdown pass for the New Orleans Saints during the first half of Sunday's game against the New York Giants, reaching the mark in only his 53rd regular-season game with the club. Brees threw scoring passes of 1 yard to Jeremy Shockey, 36 yards to Robert Meachem and 12 yards to Lance Moore during the Saints' first four offensive series.  

Sean Payton brought fullback Heath Evans to the Saints with the aim of gaining versatility on the field and leadership in the locker room. The Saints will have to settle for the latter for the rest of this season. The Saints deactiviated starting linebacker Scott Fujita for a second straight game as New Orleans prepared to host the Atlanta Falcons on Monday night. The Saints have placed first-year receiver Rod Harper on injured reserve with a stress fracture in his left foot. The move made room on the roster to bring back rookie quarterback Chase Daniel, the former Missouri standout who New Orleans waived on Monday. New Orleans Saints defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis was forced from Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins because of a sprained right knee, and he'll undergo tests Monday.
