I'm sure you've seen infomercials for the Ab Circle Pro Fitness machine with
Jennifer Nicole Lee as a presentor. It's being promoted rather heavily.
The Ab Circle Pro is a fitness machine used mainly to exercise the abdominal muscles, although it's also possible to use it to exercise the lower body. I won't go into whether this machine is effective or not but I do want to give you some tips on how to minimze risk of back injury when working out with the AbCirclePro.
Starting PositionThe reason why using the AbCirclePro without making sure you're keeping perfect form may cause damage to your back and neck is the starting position you need to take in order to begin exercising with it: you place both of your on knee pads which are rather wide apart, hold two handle bars with both hands, like you were on all fours, only with your knees wide apart. This means that your back is now parallel to the floor and you're holding with hands and knees.
This is the first place you need to watch out for things. You can easily arch your back if you don't pay close attention to it. This can cause it great harm. Make sure to keep your back straight by holding it in place with your ab muscles. This will actually work those abs even more during the workout.
You should also make sure to keep your neck straight. Pick a point on the floor and maintain your gaze on it at all time.
The WorkoutThe Ab Circle Pro workout requires you to rotate your legs from side to side so that you work your obliques and waist. You need to make sure you're keeping perfect form here to make sure you don't harm your back. Make sure to not tilt your back when you're working out. Hold it firmly in place and move only the lower back.
In addition, you don't have to go so fast as they do in the infomercial. The slower you go the more control you have. You need to be sure you've got the movement down perfect and you'll be able to slowly increase your speed. Don't rush things.
