Rising oil prices could imperil a modest increase in crude demand and the recovery of the global economy, the International Energy Agency said Thursday as it raised its outlook for oil demand this year. "The recent price spike, if further extended, risks derailing the recovery," the IEA said. "Not only that, but oil demand itself would rebound much more slowly were the price rally sustained into 2010." Oil prices reached a record high of $147 a barrel in July 2008, helping fuel the recession. Prices then bottomed out at around $32 in December but have remained mostly above $65 for months, going as high ... Read Full Story

It is located about 124 miles from the city of Dhahran. The five year project would involve work in Uthmaniyah, Haradh, Hawiyah and Shedgum. The project is expected to use three to four rigs, and involve between 153 and 185 oil production, water injection and evaluation wells, Halliburton said. The contract is an important part of Saudi Aramco's plan to explore new avenues of collaboration with major oil-field services providers. Halliburton said it has ... Read Full Story

Analysis: Female minister just one of Saudi king’s steps forward What could be bigger than the appointment of the first female minister in Saudi Arabia? Possibly the appointment of a new minister of justice who may actually help her get equal rights with her male counterpart. Right now, Norah al-Faiz, the new deputy minister for women’s education, is bound by the same laws as every other woman in the land. She can do only what her closest male relative permits. For many women of her status and education, that law is interpreted liberally, but for the vast majority, it is not. See more here ... Read Full Story

OPEC is unlikely to cut output at its upcoming meeting, Saudi Arabia's oil minister said in comments published Tuesday, as indications mounted that the oil producing bloc would resist a temptation to tighten the taps despite wanting higher crude prices. The Saudi minister, Ali al-Naimi, also voiced concerns about global crude stockpiles, whose tenaciously high levels are being sustained by weak demand linked to the economic meltdown. In an interview with the pan-Arab daily Al-Hayat ahead of Thursday's OPEC meeting in Vienna, al-Naimi said that unless those inventories drop, there would be no increase in output by the 12-member Organization of the Petroleum Exporting ...
