WASHINGTON, Jan. 3 (UPI) -- The bullet used to kill U.S. President Abraham Lincoln is on display in Washington as part of the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial, a museum official says.  

Abraham Lincoln’s opposition to the expansion of slavery in the West was a key factor on his decision to enter national politics. Pulitzer-prize winning historian James McPherson spoke about Lincoln’s connection to the West at the Lincoln Forum in Gettysburg.Length: Published: Today at 12am (ET)

On December 8, 1863, Abraham Lincoln issued a "Proclamation of Amnesty and Reconstruction." While in the midst of the Civil War, Lincoln was farsighted enough to see the need for future reconciliation. Many Radical Republicans saw this document as giving too much to the South.
