Contracts worth one year and $2.5 million are apparently typical for Dallas Cowboys safeties these days. In two days, the Cowboys have now signed two veteran safeties to identical deals. A day after re-signing strong safety Gerald Sensabaugh, Dallas signed former Cowboys and Cleveland Browns free safety Abram Elam. Having played for new Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan in Cleveland, Elam has been targeted by the Cowboys since free agency began a week ago. Now Elam can finally join his new team for the last week of training camp. Elam has an advantage over other Cowboys defenders in that he already knows Ryan’s complex 3-4 defensive scheme.
