i drive a pt cruser 2005, i get good milage but can always use better, what i want to know, is this going to hurt my car? its the only one i have, and i cant mess it up. say i were to put acetone in my tank, how much would i put in a 3/4 tank? Thanks
It will not hurt your vehicle. Use 2 ounces per 10 gallons. Keep off the finish of the car. It is not a fuel, but combines with the fuel to make it volatilize better so it burns more completely. This gives better mileage per gallon of gasoline. It also reduces air pollution from your exhaust, and will help to pass emissions tests in your state. Most nail polish remover has additives to prevent volatilization, so that is not good acetone to use for making your gasoline burn better. Amount per 10 gallons varies from one engine to another - figure it out by experimenting. It may vary from 2 ounces per 10 gallons up to 5 ounces per 10 gallons. You need to keep very accurate records, and always use the same gasoline while experimenting on the best mixture or ratio to use in your car. Before they started adding 10% ethanol (which, by the way, provides you with 10% less fuel mileage - do the math - you are still buying and burning just as much petroleum per mile driven as before the ethanol was forced upon you but the Feds don't want you to know that - so there is no reduction in oil imports based on adding ethanol - just more cost for you at the pump and more money out of your pocket and into Agribusiness who in turn gives it to the politicians - we live in a great country after all). Because you can no longer buy pure gasoline, only those of us who kept accurate records before and since the addition of ethanol have any evidence of what true gasoline mileage used to be. Before the ethanol was added I tested many brands of gasoline. Texaco/Chevron always gave the best fuel mileage, and was always more than worth the price difference. The cheap brands were and still are cheap gas. CITGO was the worse branded performer I tested, followed closely by Exxon (which surprised me - Duh) and Amoco was also one of the best for fuel mileage. After Shell started adding good additives to their gasoline they also gave really good fuel mileage. But now it all sucks due to the ethanol. I have not compared brands since the ethanol revolution. Using PURE ACETONE can probably get you back to the miles per gallon you used to get before ethanol was added. Most likely the best brands of gasoline (Texaco, Chevron, Amoco, Shell) will still save you money over the Smile and Racetrack and other junk, even if it is priced 15-20 cents per gallon more. You will drive more miles per dollar spent on gasoline if you buy the best brands. Be careful with the acetone and wash your hands after using it. You can buy it at WalMart and Home Depot. The only thing that you can store it in is the original can or glass (can be dangerous - use a very stable shape of bottle so it will not tip over.) Most plastic containers will be eaten up by acetone - except for nail polish remover bottles. I can no longer fond nail polish remover that is 100% acetone without additives - be very careful to read the fine print on the labels or you just waste money. And be careful be careful be careful.
