What Is The Best Way To Get Rid Of Acne

Acne is an emotionally troubling but treatable skin condition. It usually arises in puberty or shortly thereafter as a result of the change in hormone levels, especially in those who have a genetic susceptibility. It typically runs its course up to five years, then resolves. The sebaceous(oil) glands of the skin around the hair follicles are stimulated by testosterone-like compounds, which can contribute to blockage of pores and formation of the primary lesion of acne called the microcomedone. A form of bacteria called Propionibacterium acnes then proliferates within the oil gland. which causes inflammation of acne lesions. One commonly will get the red inflammatory lesions/bumps, pustules/whiteheads (closed comedones), blackheads (open comedones) or even painful deeper cysts on the face and even the back. Regardless of the types of skin lesions you may get, because skin of color gets easily discolored if traumatized. please do not pick! You will thank me in the long run for this suggestion.

The single best way to control and even prevent acne flares is proper skin cleansing. Having a proper skin regimen will decrease microcomedones from forming. Washing with an ordinary antibacterial soap at least once or twice a day is appropriate. Always have a separate facial soap and washcloth from the ones you use for your body due to bacterial build-up. As a once or twice weekly routine, I also suggest using a facial scrub cleanser or a facial loofah sponge to exfoliate the skin and keep pores as clean as possible. Proper skin moisturizing is very essential after cleansing even if you have oily skin. Please make sure to choose moisturizers, skin care products and make-up that are oil-free and noncomedogenic (non-pore clogging). This will prevent further comedones from forming.

If you tend to get a few acne lesions or mild acne from time to time, you might want to consider using an acne facial wash with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. Benzoyl peroxide has great anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial qualities. One of my favorite daily treatments is washing

with a salicylic acid facial wash and applying a topical benzoyl peroxide cream or gel to the affected areas. An application of Vitamin A helps to keep the sebaceous (oil) glands from secreting too much sebum. It is the sebum that can cause the blockage of pores. In addition, at least once or twice a week, exfoliating with a facial scrub or facial loofah sponge is recommended. It is still important to use an oil-free moisturizer after cleansing.

For more moderate-to-severe acne in which one gets lesion-type breakouts that are more widespread and uncontrollable, it is always best to seek professional advice from a dermatologist. They may suggest oral or topical antibiotics, prescription-strength benzoyl peroxide, topical or oral retinoids or other combination acne therapies. Because acne has the potential for scarring, please follow your dermatologist’s advice carefully and make follow-up visits.
