Adam Dunn and Alex Rios should get grounded

When thinking about some season-long struggles at the plate, this long-time White Sox lover has an idea. Adam Dunn, with his .036 average against lefties and .157 overall average, feels like retiring if he continues to swing like this. Rios, now bordering the Mendoza line after lifting his average recently to .220, looks baffled. What to do?

It makes no sense to just sit them. Batting practice and pinch hitting won't get these guys better. Nobody wants their contracts on the books, so they can't go anywhere else. My idea- send them to Charlotte, or Birmingham, or wherever minor leaguers in the system play. Not as punishment, although there's a little piece of me that is angry at these guys, but as a way to get better. I love Ozzie and hitting coach Norton, but maybe these Sox need a new mentor. Send them around the minors, as if they were on an injury rehabilitation trip, are get advice from "this" coach and "that" coach. Maybe something will stick and Alex and Adam can actually do something to help the team as the stretch run is nearing.

The Sox are only 5 games out of the division race. Today is only July 21. There is time. Let these guys tread water at the big league level and nothing will happen. One of my favorite old saws- "Nothing changes if nothing changes." Do something now so help is there when we need it in August and September. Cleveland doesn't look to be going anywhere, Detroit is still strong and making moves, Minnesota is always there in the end. Chicago looks to be stagnant and laboring to just hang in around .500. Do something, Kenny Williams! Do something Ozzie! I'm not ready to give up on the season yet and I am sure you aren't either.
