Addis Ababa Ethopia

Addis Ababa Ethopia

Addis Ababa is the largest city in Ethopia and is one of the largest cities in the world. Addis Ababa has a population of over 2,000,000.

Ethiopia

My friend Tina Lee, who I worked with at Elixir, moved to Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, five-months ago. There, she works for the Vancouver-based non-profit organization imagine1day, a company that through donations from generous people, helps build schools and education infrastructure in Ethiopia . She is back in town for a month and Lisa and I had dinner with her last night. Naturally, the conversation drifted to food.

This is an Ethiopian dish called Kitfo, which is essentially a big hunk of raw beef that is enjoyed with a spice mix called berbere and a flatbread called injera. You cut a piece of meat, dip it in the spice mix (which has been mixed with oil), and then eat it with the flatbread. Sounds good to me.

Cattle are a constant sight in the fields and on the plate.

This is a school that imagine1day is trying to upgrade. The cool thing about this charity is if you donate money, not a cent goes to administration fees. Chip Wilson, the founder of Westbeach and later Lululemon, founded the charity and picks up the tab.

Some of the children Tina works with dancing.

Thanks to Tina for sharing these pictures.
