By Lisa Rogers Times Staff Writer There are almost 6,000 children and teens in Alabama in foster care, and hundreds still need adoptive homes, said Jon Costa, director of the Etowah County Department of Human Resources. November is National Adoption Month and helps put an emphasis on those children who need a home.  

Although Erica and Tim Heiss' two sons weren't born to them, 3-year-old Kevin and 2-year-old Jeremy have been a part of their family since birth.
