It is the second-largest supplier of x86 -compatible processors, and was once a leading supplier of non-volatile flash memory. It was founded in 1969 by a group of former executives from Fairchild Semiconductor, including Jerry Sanders, III. AMD's current Chairman and CEO is Dr. Hector Ruiz. The current president and Chief Operating Officer is Dirk Meyer.
In a clear sign that Advanced Micro Devices is not giving up the fight against Intel’s Core i7 processors dubbed as the “Nehalem”, the company announced that their “Shanghai” processor will be available in the 4th quarter of this year.

Fusion will be AMD’s first CPU+GPU on one chip and the first Fusion processor is code-named Shrike. The chip will consist of dual core Phenom CPU and ATI RV800 GPU core. The chip will be DirectX 10.1 compliant and will use 40nm production technology. It will be launched by second half of 2009. DreamWorks Animation has announced that it’s converting exclusively to Intel for the supply of microprocessing equipment in the making of Animation movies.
This will replace the current supplier Advanced Micro Devices Inc., AMD signed a three-year deal back in 2005 and as this is coming to an end, DreamWorks Animation said it “requires more computing power”.
