May God’s Love Be With You … Always

So I’m listening to the song “In The Sun” by Joseph Arthur on the album “Come to Where I’m From.” The repeating line in the song, “May God’s Love Be With You…Always” strikes me as a puzzling statement.

So much of life seems to be a battle between right or wrong, good or evil and I know I’m a grown man but I still wonder why does it have to be like this. Why can’t people just do nice things, enjoy the journey of life, be kind and be proud to be alive?

Why has so much evil been done in the name of religion and who cares if my club is better than yours? Does it really matter if I knell or sit during a religious service? And let me ask you this, if you care so much about saving me from eternal damnation because I worship the wrong deity, why can’t you wrap me in love, rather than hate?

Rather than hang on every comma in a good book, why can’t we spend more time contemplating if Jesus would wear boxers or briefs if he was walking among us today. How about Mohamed, would he be a button fly or zipper guy? Personally I think Buddha is more of a XXXL stone washed flare guy. Vishnu, I’m thinking Vishnu would wear more of a tie-dye look.

What do you do when someone wants to talk their religion at you? Have you had your soul prayed for because you worshiped on the wrong day or confessed when you should have been bowing to a compass?
