A community portal about Agnosticism with blogs, videos, and photos. According to Wikipedia.org: Agnosticism is the philosophical view that the truth value of certain claims - particularly theological claims regarding metaphysics, afterlife or the existence of God, god, or deities - is unknown or inherently unknowable. Some agnostics take a stronger view that the concept of a deity is incoherent, thus meaningless and irrelevant to life. The term is used to describe those who are unconvinced or noncommittal about the existence of deities as well as about other matters of religion. Early Christian church leaders used the Greek word gnosis to describe "spiritual knowledge". "Agnostic" was introduced by Thomas Henry Huxley in 1869 to describe his philosophy. Agnosticism is not to be confused with religious views opposing the doctrine of gnosis and Gnosticism - these are religious concepts that are not generally related to agnosticism.

"The feeling of awed wonder that science can give us is one of the highest experiences of which the human psyche is capable. It is a deep aesthetic passion to rank with the finest that music and poetry can deliver. It is truly one of the things that make life worth living and it does so, if anything, more effectively if it convinces us that the time we have for living is quite finite."

Man or reptile, I give you Richard Dawkins...

Though I strongly disagree with his views on agnosticism, as assuming that the probability that God and/or celestial teapots exist is equal to the probability that God and/or celestial teapots do not exist, I very much enjoy listening to this man speak. I resent being referred to as a fence-sitter or a wimp for calling myself agnostic though, for I am in fact atheist with respect to any God the human mind has ever conjured up. Let me make it clear that I deny the existence of the Judeo-Christian God just as much, if not more than, the existence of Hathor, Isis and Amun. I am just as opposed to theistic religion as a self-proclaimed atheist. However, the irreducible complexity inherent in many biochemical systems leads many scientists to the conclusion that intelligent design is viable, or at least that Darwinian evolution has certain shortcomings. That is not to say the Holy Trinity is responsible for evolution, or Zeus for that matter; that is to say it's impossible to know whether a higher order exists or does not exist within or outside the cosmos. Ben Stein's documentary Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed exposes the intolerance and closed-mindedness of the scientific community surrounding this topic. Biochemist Dr. Michael Behe inquires as to how “Darwinian natural selection accounts for the amazing complexity that exists at the molecular level." Furthermore, how do gnostic-atheists purport to operationalize a concept as abstract as God? One definition of God is "Life, Truth, Love, Mind, Soul, Spirit, Principle." How can the existence of God be denied in those terms? I call myself agnostic (in reference to knowledge and not belief) because I am open-minded, I am a freethinker, and I believe in intellectual and spiritual freedom. But these are just my views, and I have no desire to impose them on others.
