The 246-foot long semi-rigid airship, which is about 52 feet longer than the Goodyear blimp Spirit of America, cruised over Seal Beach and Sunset Beach during a media tour that began at Long Beach Airport. For this weekend's Steam Powered: The California Steampunk Convention , the band Abney Park and Airship Ventures have teamed up to offer dirigible rides to conference-goers (for $785 a ticket). Airship Ventures just brought one of their Zeppelin NTs over from Germany and it will be moored at Moffett Field. The Zeppelin Eureka — which is billed as the world’s largest commercial airship at 246 feet in length — will fly over north Orange County and other parts of Southern California in late May when the airship makes its first visit to region. Airship Ventures Inc., founded 2007 in California, is a privately owned corporation formed with the objective of bringing Zeppelin NT airships to the USA for "flightseeing" tours, media and science mission operations.
