Zeppelins Taking Flight

From:  airshiptimes.com
By ATEditor • May 11th, 2008 • Category: Latest News There’s a lot of good news around at the moment if you’re a fan of the Zeppelin NT Airship. With news that a Zeppelin could be flying over London this year, this would be the first appearence of a German built Airship in the capitals skys since the First World War. At least this time they’ll be there to offer the public a ‘birds eye view’ of London from the comfort of its 12 seat gondola. Now we’re seeing lots of positive... Read Full Story

Wingfoot Air Express Airship Disaster

From:  airshiptimes.com
By ATEditor • May 11th, 2008 • Category: History In order to provide our readers with the best possible source of information relating to airships, and all aspects of their operation, we have decided to trial the posting of reprint articles on the site. Below is the first of these articles, one I wrote a while ago about the Wingfoot Air Express and the ensuing disaster which became (as far as I can tell) the first airship disaster. Wingfoot Air Express - The First Airship... Read Full Story

Dread Zeppelin: The Army's New Surveillance Blimp

Since the airship glory days of the early part of the century, blimps have certainly lost some of their cachet, relegated to hovering over sporting events and not much else. However, the Army is about to test launch an unmanned hybrid airship to be used for surveillance missions in Afghanistan. Read more... Read Full Story

75 Years Since USS Akron Airship Disaster

From:  blimpship.com
It almost passed without notice on the internet, from what I've seen so far, but app.com have pointed out that it is indeed the 75th anniversary of the date on which the USS Akron airship disaster occured. There is a whole wealth of information out there on the USS Akron, so I'll try to keep it simple. The best place to start would be the USS Akron (ZRS-4) Wikipedia Entry where you'll find out almost everything you want to know about the sister ship of the USS Macon. USS Akron Lakehurst... Airship sites of interest

From:  blimpship.com
It's good to see some comments being posted on the site, namely from the creator of the Russian website Aerocrat (an interesting read but you'll have to use a translation site if you don't speak Russian) and from Philipp, owner of Minizepp , a site I've had a good look at recently and, thankfully, Swiss based Minizepp provide an English translation already. One of the sites I've visited thanks to an interesting image on Aerocrat , was the Parmley AirHeLo which is an interesting twin... Read Full Story

Goodyear Blimp Warming In Ohio

From:  blimpship.com
There was an interesting post today on the Goodyear Blimp Blog from Greg Poppenhouse, the pilot-in-charge of the Spirit of Goodyear in Akron, Ohio. After a lot of snow and cold weather, the Spirit of Goodyear Blimp was kept inside its hanger for a week and has only just ventured out. However, the cold climate promted Greg to give us a little bit of information about how the climate can have an effect on the operations of an airship. It was interesting to read that " The blimp handles the... Read Full Story

Ohio Airship Blog Post

From:  blimpship.com
Some of the time you come across a really great detailed article that you have to let people know about, and I found one here at the Blogging Ohio website. Whilst it may not be 'new information' to those of you who study the airship industry, there is an amazing amount of information here on the Ohio Airship Incorporated company and their Dynalifter airship project. There is, of course, a lot of information about the local ties with airships. Ohio has long been associated with airships in... Read Full Story
