The Hawks had been cruising, primarily because everyone fills their role and they are playing, basically, early 2000′s Piston basketball. They need all hands on deck because Joe Johnson is not a superstar. So, he can’t take the ball in his hands and get it over with all on his own.
With that in mind, Al Horford was the backup star. He could just run the game through the paint. Now, he cannot do that. Without him, there is a void in the middle and the Hawks are going to have to go outside to make it possible for them to score points regularly.
Now, I don’t know if they are capable, but it’s the only way. They don’t have other options. Who are they going to sign or trade for? Nobody. That would be a waste of resources. Horford is young and he’s coming back eventually.
In the end, I don’t believe that the Hawks will be able to survive this. It’s just like your typical Atlanta sports team. Everything is going good and then, somehow, disappointment gets introduced into the mix. It’s sad, but true.
I wish Al Horford a speedy recovery. The Hawks are going to need it.
