Casting: Shioh Fernandez in ‘Evil Dead’ Reboot; Al Pacino in ‘Despicable Me 2;’ Chris Rock Courting Melissa McCarthy for Jerry Springer Marriage

After Lily Collins took her self out of the lead role in the new Evil Dead, the people behind the movie have been trying to find people to cast and it looks as though they may have found some new people. According to Variety Shiloh Fernandez (Deadgirl, Skateland, Red Riding Hood) will play the male lead in the movie, but does not elaborate on what role he will have. The trade also reports that director Fede Alvarez will move on to re-casting the lead female role.

While its understandable to see why Javier Bardem had to drop out of Despicable Me 2, when he has prior obligations to movies like the new James Bond movie Skyfall, and hopefully The Dark Tower. So the animated sequel to the 2009 movie has found a replacement. According to Deadline, AL Pachino will now take his Bardem’s place as the primary villain of the movie. I’d like to think this is great news, but given that Pacino’s career has been on the decline as of late, I can’t expect too much. But who knows, he may come out of this unscathed, and it could be a boost in his career.

Next casting bit isn’t a confirmation, but it is interesting. While Melissa McBride is riding the wave of success, thanks in part to her performance in Bridesmaids and Mike and Molly, the actress has seen a string of roles come towards her. While she is signed on to have a role in Tate Taylor’s untitled movie, appear opposite Jon Hamm in another, and will play a thief who steals Jason Batesman’s identity in Identity Thief, the actress is no being courted by Chris Rock for another movie.

The LA Times is reporting that Rock wants McCarthy to appear in his new movie about marriage. According to the report, McCarthy would play Rock’s wife as a part of a Jerry Springer Couple.
