Designer Alber Elbaz can relate to his debut book because it’s ”small and fat”.

Alber Elbaz says his own appearance influenced his debut book.

The Lanvin designer is releasing his first home – which pays tribute to the many artisans who help make his collection, from fitters to sewers – and admits it’s “short and fat” like him.

He told the International Herald Tribune: “The book is small and fat – something I could relate to! I was searching for a story that people would get when they look at the book – and the story is the process.”

The heavily picture-based book documents all elements of how the Lanvin team works, and each picture is narrated with a short quote from Alber.

In one he writes: “It’s not about the front or back of a dress. It’s about what is in-between; the body, the human being; the person.”

One set of people he is trying to appeal to are mother and daughters as he recently said he creates his clothes for them.

He said: “LA is a city full of divas, but I think they are just sensitive men and women. My clothes are for making women feel strong and beautiful.

“My clothes are for mothers and daughters, I love all women.”
