Drive was one of the most criminally underseen movies of 2011. The film was met with critical acclaim since it debuted at Cannes in May and many writers tried to spike the appeal of the movie to their readers to no avail. But with awards season coming to a close, FilmDistrict will do all it can to can the push they need to get a couple of awards in, specifically for Albert Brooks who plays the film’s antagonist Bernie Rose. As such the movie studio has partnered up with Arclight Theaters for a special one-week engagement, and will launch the event with Albert Brooks in attendance for a Q&A on Friday night.
This is a treat for anyone who is a fan of the movie and a resident of the Southern California area. Of course with all the buzz surrounding Brooks’ performance as Bernie Rose, there is no doubt that this is FilmDistrict’s way of saying, don’t forget about Albert Brooks’ performance in Drive. The movie was incredible as was the actor’s performance and it would be a dirty shame if Brooks wasn’t nominated for his performance.

Ryan Gosling stars as a Los Angeles wheelman for hire, stunt driving for movie productions by day and steering getaway vehicles for armed heists by night. Though a loner by nature, Driver can’t help falling in love with his beautiful neighbor Irene (Carey Mulligan), a vulnerable young mother dragged into a dangerous underworld by the return of her ex-convict husband Standard (Oscar Isaac).
After a heist intended to pay off Standard’s protection money spins unpredictably out of control, Driver finds himself driving defense for the girl he loves, tailgated by a syndicate of deadly serious criminals (Albert Brooks and Ron Perlman). But when he realizes that the gangsters are after more than the bag of cash in his trunk—that they’re coming straight for Irene and her son—Driver is forced to shift gears and go on offense.
