Yup. that famous equation which is associated to Einstein and The Bomb.
We always think of it as the m (mass) becoming energy (E) with the explosive effect of light squared. Take a little bit of plutonium, force it to absorb neutrons and a chain reaction occurs which result of an amazing amount of energy from a teaspoon of material.
Well, Nature has given us the opposite side of that equality. In a grand lightshow of a Giant Blue Star closely orbiting (captured) by either of Neutron Star or, more likely, a Black Hole.
This is the first discovery witnessing Light being converted into Matter (!)
The Invisible Companion of the Giant Blue Star spews out Gamma Rays of tremendous energy. In fact only such powerful energy as Gammas, which are trillions of times more powerful than normal light, have the necessary energy to convert Light, from the Blue Giant, to matter. We've long known it was possible that the famous equation was two-sided. Indeed the equation demanded that it be so! We have just never had the energy in the laboratory or seen such in cosmology.
