Former President Alberto Fujimori's daughter says her imprisoned father is suffering from health problems and his family will ask Peru's current leader to pardon him on humanitarian grounds.
Keiko Fujimori says her father's supporters are collecting documentation to support such a request and she expects the family to ask for the pardon in the coming weeks.
Alberto Fujimori is serving a 25-year sentence for crime against humanity committed during 1990-2000 government.
The daughter, who ran unsuccessfully for president this year, says the health of the 73-year-old ex-president is fragile and has deteriorated in recent months. Fujimori has had four minor operations for precancerous lesions on his tongue.
President Ollanta Humala declined to comment Thursday on the planned petition.
