Dumbledore is gay! In other news, Runaways rocks.

And you thought fangirls just made this stuff up! For those that need canonical affirmation, J. K. Rowling herself said in a Q&A at Carnegie Hall that Albus Dumbledore was gay. This has little or nothing to do with the actual Harry Potter story, but it certainly vindicates hoards of slashers who for years have insisted that there is more to Dumbledore's "scholarly bachelorhood" than meets the eye. You can read this and other interesting tidbits about various HP characters here: J. K. Rowling at Carnegie Hall. WARNING: book seven spoilers are included in the interview.

In other news, I heart Runaways. Brian K. Vaughan's delightful series featuring the children of L.A.'s most powerful supervillains continues to deliver intriguing plot twists and dazzling artwork. As Vaughan is currently writing the four-issue BtVS season eight Faith arc, Runaways is in the capable hands of Joss Whedon himself. Vaughan and Whedon somehow manage to have distinct styles and yet fit seamlessly into one another's comics. The Faith dialogue penned by Vaughan is spot on, managing to both capture the older and more weary aspects of her character while still sounding like the Faith we remember from BtVS season three and also later episodes of Angel. Whedon also captures the word play between characters in Runaways, building on already strong character tics, like Chase's jokes about really good weed and Molly's infectious cheerfulness and indignant opposition to being treated like a child (best Molly line ever: "Why aren't you being awesomed by me!?!?").

Nico looks exactly as I desperately wished to in high school: black hair and ivory skin, clad in gorgeous vintage-goth-girl clothing featuring lots of fishnet tights, knee high boots, and corset-y like tops with lacing. I seriously toyed with the idea of getting a wig and creating her look for D*C. However, issue #28 gave me something way better (and much more doable)--Lillie!

I still get (almost) knee high boots and corset-y like tops with lacing, with the added bonus of cute underwear and a very swingy skirt, plus...she's a redhead! So no wigs and/or dyeing necessary! Just a set of hot rollers and some E-Bay combing for petticoats. Sweet! Also, I admit I have a bit of a thing for Victor, so the fact that she's star dancing with him doesn't hurt ;).
