'Babel' director Inarritu heads Tokyo fest jury

From:  ap.org
"Babel" director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu is back in Japan, a nation he says has long fascinated him — this time, as head of the jury of the Tokyo International Film Festival. Like Inarritu's native Mexico, Japan has both the tradition of storytelling and the energy of a defiant avant-garde, he told reporters Monday. On his past experiences working in Japan, he said, "I wanted to shoot everything. The exercise I had was to restrain myself." Fifteen films are competing at the festival... Read Full Story

The Year 2000: Counting Down The Zeroes - Ameros Perros (Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu)

It's nearly ten years since a little Mexican film, by a first time director, caused shock waves and ripples across the cine world. Not only did it become a world wide hit but it bridged the divide between art house favourite and mainstream approval. Britt Parrott, of the astounding film site Perhapses ; the man quotes Neitzsche , enough said, takes a fresh look at the directoral debut of Alejandro González Iñárritu, Ameros Perros, and concludes that it doesn't exactly hold up all these years... 21 Grams

Here we have three stories, one is a man who is in point to die, Paul Rivers ( Sean Penn ). A woman, Cristina Peck ( Naomi Watts ) that her husband and daughters died knocking down by a car . And an ex convict, Jack Jordan( Benicio del Toro ), who became a christ fan and make lot of mistakes without blame. Those stories connect one each other with the car accident caused by Jack, who drive like a crazy and crash with Michael Peck( Danny Huston ), Cristina’s husband, killing him and his... Babel - Movie Review

By itself, the entire plot and story of Babel probably don't make for really interesting reading. Added to this is the fact that this is probably one movie which I will really find hard to review considering the deftness with which it has been made. For lack of a simpler term to explain the screenplay, I will restrict myself to describing it as 'multi-linear' with a qualification of 'multi-chronological' thrown in. Just to describe these terms further, when I say 'multi-linear' I am... Read Full Story

Amores perros (2000, Alejandro González Iñárritu)

Amores perros could be a public service announcement about canine cruelty in Mexico City. Mexico City has a population of around nine million and takes up about six hundred square miles. For such a big city, it’s kind of odd the cast keeps running into each other, since their only connection is being the subject of this film (destitute assassin and dog lover Emilio Echevarría, who walks everywhere, must secretly be The Flash if he’s going to cover so much ground). I’d barely heard of the... Read Full Story

Javier Bardem to Star in New Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu Film

Here's the kind of director-actor pairing I could get used to: Javier Bardem will star in Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu 's Biutiful . Bardem will play a man "embroiled in shady dealings who is confronted by a childhood friend, now a policeman," or so says Variety . The movie is shooting in Barcelona this week, and for the first time, Gonzalez Inarritu will be credited as a screenwriter. Previously, his feature length films have all been written by Guillermo Arriaga , but the... Read Full Story

Infamous director signs on Meth Project commercials

Director Alejandro González Iñárritu ( Amores Perros , 21 Grams and Babel ) has signed on to direct commercials for The Meth Project. Iñárritu's commercials will be highly distributed and will basically horrifying teens who are thinking about using meth. It sounds like a good idea to me! The videos, like this one, are very graphic. The commercial above, for example, features an addict beating his mother and robbing here. What do you expect from Alejandro González Iñárritu. At... Read Full Story
