Former world road racing champion Alessandro Ballan will lead the BMC Racing Team at the Tour Down Under, the first event of cycling’s 2012 UCI ProTour.
Ballan, the 2008 world champion, heads a seven-man BMC team which includes riders from Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, Australia and Britain for the race in January.
Belgium’s Greg van Avermaet, winner of this year’s Tour de Wallonie, will ride the Tour Down Under for the first time.
The BMC team comprises Italy’s Ballan, Adam Blythe of Britain, Marcus Burghardt of Germany, Martin Kohler of Switzerland, Manuel Quinziato of Italy, Tim Roe of Australia and Van Avermaet.
