Burns Night

By Melissa on  From smittenbybritain.com
Tonight is Burns Night, when Scotland celebrates its poet laureate Robert Burns. Born in 1759, Burns was the son of a poor tenant farmer from Ayreshire. Despite his lack of wealth, William Burnes, Robert's father, insisted that his son be educated and hired a tutor to assist with his studies. Robert wrote his first poem at age 15 , O, Once I Lov'd A Bonnie Lass, about his first love, Nelly Kirkpatrick, a labourer on his father's farm. In 1786, Burns published his first book of works, Poems...Read Full Story

It has a likeness of Eddie Giacomin’s mask and one of John Davidson’s famous red white and blue mask, both in front of a Madison Square Garden shadow. On the other side is Mike Richter lifting the Stanley Cup (wonder if Mike will demand royalties?). On the front is...Read Full Story

Artist : SARAH BRIGHTMANAlbum : A Winter Symphony Sing, sing, sing the song they sang with us When they sailed away Bring, bring, bring them back again To these lonely shores one day We'll be here awaiting their arrival How that moment's gonna shine May they ring then in our hearts The jubilant bells of "Auld Lang Syne" Sing, sing, sing the sing of sirens If that is what it takes Bring, bring, bring them back again To each lonely heart that aches I'll be first to know of your...Read Full Story
