Alexander Frolov is looking to prove to the New York Rangers that not only can he excel in New York for one year, but may be beyond as well and will be worth a long-term deal at the end of the season.
According to Andrew Gross of Ranger Rants and The Record, Frolov got off on the right foot today when in a scrimmage, he scored three goals and generated an array of scoring opportunities. I know it’s only a scrimmage but with the organizational brass watching, it’s obviously an important start for the new signee.
Frolov is going to be given every opportunity to succeed on Broadway this year and will more than likely be placed on a line with Marian Gaborik. With that in mind, Frolov is going to need to work hard every single game and not take any nights off because unfortunately, this offense cannot afford to do something like that.
On another note, team prospect and Frolov’s linemate in the scrimmage Derek Stepan also had a strong showing. He scored his team’s first goal less than a minute into the contest and looked comfortable playing with Frolov and Gaborik. This is another important step for Stepan as he makes his way towards a National Hockey League career.
These things may not mean much to fans but to the organization, it’s positive and right now, the more positives the team had going into the season, the better off they will be.
