Alexander Rybak is going to the movies.
Alexander crushed the competition in 2009’s ‘Eurovision Song Contest’ with his song ‘Fairytale’, but that’s not enough for this young musician, because later this year he’ll be gracing the silver screen in the movie “Yohan”. Before he set off on his own fairytale by conquering Europe with his winning song, he took a small part in the Norwegian movie called “Yohan”, which is a story is set in late 1800’s about a young boy (Robin Pedersen Daniel) who is sent away from his family in order to work on a farm to earn money. He experiences many hardships and overcomes his fears by relying on bravery and hope to make the best of his circumstances. The film is based on various true stories and has been shot in both Norwegian and English.
The director of the film, Grete Salomonsen, saw a talent in Rybak and managed to convince him to take a part in the film, in which he plays a gypsy named Levi. She offered him the part after seeing him perform on stage in a production of “Fiddler on the Roof”.
Principal photography took place last summer, but filming continues for various pick-ups. The film is a co-production between Norway and The USA and is the most expensive family film in Norwegian history.
Grete Salomonsen and her husband, producer and D.O.P. Odd Hynnekleiv, are currently in Cannes at this moment preparing to promote the film and secure further international distribution. On Wednesday May 20th they will be showing footage from the film at Les Tambourins.
Also featured in the film are Dennis Storhøi, Kris Kristoffersen, Jørgen Langhelle, Aylar Lie , Robin Daniel and Morten Aabel.
The movie is set for release in Norway on the 11th of December 2009. Release dates for the rest of Europe and America are not confirmed at this time. You can find further information about the film at www.Yohan.no
