Alex Wurz was fastest for Williams as the extremely hot conditions continued on the final day of testing at Jerez.
The Austrian lapped the Spanish track in 1m19.962s, just 0.042s ahead of BMW's Robert Kubica.
McLaren had dominated the first two days at Jerez, but test driver Pedro de la Rosa was down to third today - although he did complete more laps than anyone else.
Rubens Barrichello was fourth fastest for Honda, ahead of Swiss teenager Sebastien Buemi, who was having his second run for Red Bull and lapped just 0.4s off the lead pace.
Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen took sixth and seventh, with both having troubled days.
An oil leak on the Toyota ultimately led to an engine chage, while Kovalainen had to stop for gearbox repairs and later needed a new V8 too.
The Finn had been scheduled to hand over to test driver Nelson Piquet Jr during the day, but Renault ultimately decided to leave Kovalainen in the car to continue working with new aerodynamic parts that he had debuted yesterday.
"We had planned to run Heikki during the morning and Nelsinho this afternoon, but our running today was interrupted by several mechanical issues," said chief test engineer Christian Silk.
"Although we successfully completed the test work we had planned to do with Heikki, it meant we unfortunately ran out of time for Nelson to take the wheel."
Super Aguri's Takuma Sato completed the participants.
Ferrari and Toro Rosso continued to test on their own at Mugello.
Scott Speed was in action for STR again, despite earlier reports that the team would immediately drop him following his clash with team boss Franz Tost in Germany.
The American had to stop during the afternoon to attend to pain in his back, but managed to complete the day.
