China's He Chong followed up his Olympic gold with a world championship in the 3-meter springboard Thursday, pulling off one of the most difficult dives on his final attempt to beat out American Troy Dumais and Canadian star Alexandre Despatie. He finished with the dive known as 5156B — a forward 2 1/2 somersault with three twists in pike position — and received scores ranging from 7.0 to 8.0. French-Canadian diver, Alexandre Despatie (born, June 8, 1985), captured the hearts of Canadians when he won a gold medal on the 10M diving board at the 1998 Commonwealth Games and suddenly became an overnight celebrity. Since then, he has accomplished what no other diver has in history. Canadian 2005 world champion Alexandre Despatie topped the scores in Wednesday's 3m springboard semi-finals at the World Championships here. The 24-year-old had been narrowly pipped by American Troy Dumais in the morning preliminaries but came out on top in the afternoon. Despatie pushed Chinese Olympic champion He Chong into second place, reversing their final positions from Beijing last year. Dumais finished third with China's Zhang Xinhua in fourth, just ahead of Australian 10m Olympic champion Matthew Mitcham.
