Astana's Alexandre Vinokourov in the 2007 Tour

Fox Sports had a nice summary of Vino's performance so far in the 2007 Tour de France.  Vino was a favorite coming into the race, but his crash has put him far nehind the leader.

Here's an excerpt:

Bike problems catapulted pre-race favorite Alexander Vinokourov of team Astana onto the pavement in stage five. Vino came up from the crash looking like an extra in a Rob Zombie movie. Blood poured from both knees and his right elbow, and a giant strawberry on his right hip glowed through his shredded short, but he finished the stage. After a quick trip to the hospital that night for stitches, he continued and remains in the race. But even a doppelganger jogging alongside Vino holding an Astana jersey aloft on stage eight couldn't give him the wings he needed to soar into the overall lead, much less keep up. On stage nine, Vino detonated and finished the day 3:24 behind race winner Juan Mauricio Soler of team Barloworld leaving the Kazakh warrior in tears at 21st place overall, 8:05 behind Rasmussen. Andreas Kloden, Vino's chief lieutenant on the Astana team coming into the Tour, fractured his tailbone in a separate incident on stage five but has clawed his way to eighth place overall after stage nine, down 3:50 on Rasmussen.
