In 2008, Brazilian starlet Alice Braga appeared alongside the likes of Amy Adams, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt on the cover of Vanity Fair’s prestigious Hollywood Issue (Braga was actually on the inside cover), which is usually a good barometer for predicting whose movies we’ll be watching in the very near future. But as the careers of her fellow ingenues soared, Braga -- still best known for her 2002 debut in the explosive City of God -- failed to find a role that made full use of her considerable talents. After giving the whole I’m-the-new-Michelle-Rodriguez thing a go in the over-the-top actioners Repo Men and Predators, the svelte South American is ready to test her chops opposite the cream of the crop in the upcoming films On the Road (starring Amy Adams, Kristen Stewart, Kirsten Dunst, and a host of others) and The Rite (co-starring Anthony Hopkins). Can Brazil produce a legitimate crossover star that does more than pose half-naked and dribble a soccer ball? We’ll go with yes.
